Roddy McDowall (September 17, 1928 - October 3, 1998) was a British Actor who performed the voice of Mr. Soil in A Bug's Life. He also starred in movies such as Planet of the Apes, Overboard, The Second Jungle Book, Murder in the Family, Confrim or Deny, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The role of Mr. Soil in A Bug's Life was his final role which was released a month after his death. On October 3, 1998, Roddy McDowall died at his home in Studio California at the age of 70 from cancer. He was never married and was survived by his sister Virginia McDowall who died in 2006 at the age of 79. He was very good friends with actresses Angela Lansbury who paid tribute to him on the radio the day after his death and Elizabeth Taylor who has referred to him as the one friend she confided everything to and who was always understanding.
