"Floyd Mulvihill, originally trained as an automotive engineer, decided to put down his tools and pursue his life-long passion to race. He competed in the Junior Piston Cup Pro Series with the likes of Sage VanDerSpin and graduated to the Piston Cup in 2005. He's affectionately known as "Smoky Floyd" as he enjoys laying long patches of burning rubber in front of his adoring fans."
Mulvihill returns in Cars 3. It should be noted that his car body is completely different from how he appeared in Cars, being closer to a modern stock car racer. He competes in the 2016 Piston Cup season, but is replaced by a next-generation rookie sometime in the middle of the season.
- In a Duracell commercial promoting Cars 3, Lightning McQueen passes Floyd using the tilt technique similar to how he did in the first film.
