Deb/Flo is a main character in Finding Nemo and a minor character in Finding Dory. She is a blue and white humbug. The dentist received Deb through a mail order. She believes her reflection is her twin sister named Flo.

Flo is a loyal companion. She's always there when Deb needs her, she's never loud, and when Deb is in a smiley mood, Flo always seems to be in one too. Flo sometimes gets in the way when Deb wants to look out of the tank.

Finding Nemo[]

"This humbug fish never feels lonely because she is convinced that her reflection is her identical twin sister! Deb finds Flo to be a loyal companion who is always there when she needs her. Her "sister" is never loud and is always in tune with her moods."[1]

Deb is a blue-and-white striped damselfish who lives in the dentist's fish tank in Sydney, Australia. She seems delusional as she thinks her reflection is her sister named Flo, who may or may not exist. She eventually escapes with the rest of the tank fish into the ocean. During the credits, since Deb is no longer in an artificial environment surrounded by glass walls, she now admires her reflection in a bubble until a credit text pops it.

Trivia[]

  • Deb's stripes are incorrectly colored blue instead of black. This was likely done in order to avoid unintentional resemblance to blackface make-up.
  • Deb's name and her imaginary sister's together allude to "ebb and flow," the movement of water, often in relation to natural tides.
    • Eventually, Flo became the name of a character in the Cars series.
  • Deb is listed as "Deb (and Flo)" in the credits and other media.
