"The AquaScum 2003 is an all-purpose, self-cleaning maintenance free salt water purifier that is guaranteed to even extend the life of your aquarium fish. The AquaScum is programmed to scan your tank environment every 5 minutes?"
Peach, reading the manual of the AquaScum 2003

The AquaScum 2003 is a device that is bought by the dentist for his office fish tank after Dr. Sherman enters his office one day to find the tank dirty (caused by Nemo, who successfully jams the filter).

Finding Nemo[]

"This miracle of cutting-edge aquarium technology ensures that the tank will never be scummy again! It laser-scans the water every five minutes, sucks away slime, and purifies salt water. Bloat is jealous of the scum-sucking device, and it also ruins Gill's escape plan. But the upside is better quality water and a longer life for everyone, if they stay..."[1]

It is designed to automatically scan the tank for any filth to remove with its laser beam. Rather than taking his fish out and putting them into bags so that the dentist cleans the tank like he presumably once used to do, Dr. Sherman instead installs the device, thus sabotaging any chance of his fish, especially Nemo, from escaping the office. This angers all the fish in the tank, especially Gurgle, who furiously condemns the device.

At the end of the film, despite having a lifetime guarantee, the device suddenly stops working, much to the annoyance of Dr. Sherman, who is then forced to start cleaning the tank himself by taking the fish out and putting them into bags (however, the fish manage to escape the office this time and he has no idea where they went).

Trivia[]

  • There is an easter egg on Disc 2 on the DVD showing a commercial for this filter.
  • In the English-language version of Finding Nemo, the Aquascum 2003 measures the tank's temperature in Fahrenheit even though Australia uses Celsius.
