Aphie is a supporting character in A Bug's Life. He is the Queen's pet lap aphid.

A Bug's Life[]

"Cute little Aphie has it made. As the Queen's lap aphid, he goes everywhere with her, usually carried in her arms. In fact, the little fellow's feet rarely touch the ground. He sits in the Queen's lap—and the lap of luxury. Aphie gets the best tidbits, the softest cushions, and the benefit of a cool breeze whenever some ant is fanning the Queen. Luckily, all the spoiling hasn't hurt his perky, friendly personality one bit."[1]

He is first shown being held by the Queen. Then he barks at Dot after she pops out of the ground. The Queen is mostly shown holding him. Aphie is shown to be terrified of Hopper and usually hides behind the Queen's crown.

During the outtakes, Aphie begins to urinate in the Queen's lap, causing her to call for a towel while Flik and the crew laugh.

Trivia[]

  • In real life, Aphie would be treated more like cattle instead of a dog. Aphids suck nectar out of plants and then excrete a sweet fluid for the ants to drink. In return, the ants protect the aphids from predators.
    • Additionally, Aphie would be considered a snack for Francis, as aphids are a common meal for ladybugs.
