"Attention!"
—Sarge

Sarge is a main character in Cars and Cars 2, and a major character in Cars 3. He is a khaki green 1942 WW2 Willy's army jeep. He is a WWII veteran. He runs his own government surplus store, Sarge's Surplus Hut. and DisneyToon Studios' spin-off, Planes: Fire & Rescue.

Sarge is an ex-army jeep that brings military discipline to Radiator Springs. While running Sarge's Surplus Hut, he supplies everything one could need to survive. Sarge has traditional views and disagrees with cars like Fillmore. When he opens his dream SUV Boot Camp it lets him introduce a tough regime to soft city types, and bring back a bit of respect to Ornament Valley.

Sarge is a natural patriot and loves America. Every morning he raises the Stars and Stripes in front of his army hut to a version of "Reveille" while saluting with his antenna. He can't understand why Fillmore prefers to listen to "disrespectful junk" like Jimi Hendrix.

Sarge loves to tell stories about his daring fearlessness in the military. One time, one of his tank friends lost a track in the Battle of the Bulge and Sarge towed him to safety. For his bravery, Sarge received the Grille Badge of True Metal. This and medals like it are displayed front and center at Sarge's Surplus Hut, right next to Sarge's own brand of The Mother Road survival kit. He guarantees that if a vehicle breaks down, his kit will get him/her through the night—or the next world war.

"Ask Sarge about his military service and he'll regale you with stories of daring fearlessness! Like the time his tank friend lost his track in The Battle of the Bulge and Sarge had to tow him to safety. For his bravery, Sarge received the Grille Badge of True Mettle! It's displayed front and center at Sarge's Surplus Hut, side by side with Sarge's own brand of The Mother Road survival kit. He guarantees that if you break down, this kit will help you get through the night and maybe the next world war, and it all stows nicely in your trunk."[1]

Sarge is a 1942 WW2 Willy's army jeep. He proudly served in World War 2 and received the Grille Badge of True Mettle for towing a tank to safety in the Battle of the Bulge. He now lives in Radiator Springs and runs Sarge's Surplus hut, where he sells military surplus and his own Mother Road Survival Kit, guaranteed to get you through the next world war should you break down. He believes firmly in order and has his lawn perfectly manicured and mowed twice a day. Every morning he plays a rousing rendition of Reveille and raises the American flag, only to be interrupted by his neighbor Fillmore who simultaneously plays Hendrix's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Despite their constant bickering, Sarge and Fillmore appear to be close friends.

Cars 2 TurnTables - Sarge

"Sarge is a patriotic veteran who runs the Radiator Springs Army surplus store, Sarge’s Surplus Hut. Sarge’s no-nonsense attitude often leads to bickering with his hippie friend, neighbor and polar opposite, Fillmore. Despite their differences, the two are almost inseparable – even throughout their world travels. A security specialist with military connections around the globe, Sarge joins Lightning McQueen and Mater at the World Grand Prix as a member of Team Lightning McQueen."

In the film he is seen with Fillmore for most of the time. In Italy he is amazed at a drink he has which Fillmore says is organic. He also summons the army while Sheriff does the same with Scotland Yard to fight and catch the lemons. At the end Fillmore says that Sarge replaced Lightning's fuel. He also finally says "man."

Cars 3[]

Sarge returned in Cars 3.[2] Unlike the last two films, he only serves minor roles, and while he is seen working as McQueen's pit crew, these appearance are nothing less than cameos, as he does not do anything. When McQueen left for the Rust-Eze Racing Center, he was happy for McQueen, but immediately became annoyed by Red, who began crying behind him because McQueen left. According to Mater, he and Fillmore stood in charge of Luigi's Casa Della Tires while Luigi and Guido were out with McQueen, but when Fillmore started giving away tires, Sarge vowed to track them down. He only has one line in the film, being "Changes!? What kind of changes?"

Personality[]

Being a former soldier, Sarge is shown with a very harsh personality, always speaking in a coarse tone and disapproving of anything that may seem unnatural to him. This is mostly shown through his interactions with Fillmore, who is his polar opposite and constantly annoys Sarge though is almost always seen with him. As a war veteran, he has a deep respect for his country, saluting the U.S flag every morning, and telling Fillmore that Jimmy Hendrix's version of the National Anthem is "disrespectful junk". Despite his seemingly harsh personality, he is a soft character at heart, always caring for the well-being of his friends, such as being angry at Francesco Bernoulli for insulting McQueen on TV in Cars 2, enlisting in the British Miltiary to search for a missing Mater, and being scared that the British guards might shoot McQueen and Mater (who has a bomb stuck to him) at the end of the same film. This even applies to Fillmore, his literal opposite. He has even been seen sad in a few occasions, such as in flashbacks of Cars when Radiator Springs became deserted, and in Cars 2 when he read Mater's letter revealing that he's leaving McQueen's team..
