The Pixarpedia is an encyclopedia released by DK Publishing on August 31, 2009. It was written by Barbara Bazaldua, Steve Bynghall, Jo Casey, Glenn Dakin, Lucy Dowling, Laura Gilbert, Julia March, Catherine Saunders, and Victoria Taylor. It provides information about the movies and shorts made by Pixar before its publication date.

The Adventures of André & Wally B.[]
This was John Lasseter's first computer animated project, created while he was at Lucasfilm. At that stage, only geometric shapes could be animated so the characters were made up of spheres, cones, cubes and cylinders. André, whose design was partly inspired by Mickey Mouse, was simple to create, but to animate the short properly, Pixar needed to be able to bend shapes. The animation team created a teardrop model that could be manipulated which made the bumble bee character, Wally B., possible. This simple tale of revenge was completed in 1984.
Luxo Jr.[]
Household objects were brought to life in Pixar Animation Studios' first short. The film was exhibited in Siggraph in 1986 and received a standing ovation. At that point in Pixar's history, John Lasseter was still the only animator. Luxo Jr. showcased Pixar's ability to bring characters to life and even spawned the company's logo. Centering on two main characters (two Luxo lamps) and a ball, it received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1986.
Red's Dream[]
Still trying to lay the foundations towards their own feature-length animation, Red's Dream was the first short to be made using Pixar's own RenderMan system. This was the first Pixar short to feature an original character, Lumpy the clown, and had a very particular atmosphere which was darker than Pixar's usual style. It allowed animators to experiment with lighting by creating rain and night shots.
Tin Toy[]
The short that led to Toy Story won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film and was the most technically challenging of all Pixar's early shorts. Twice as long as Red's Dream, this was the first time a human character had been digitally animated with life-like features and movements. The character of the Tin Toy (Tinny) was inspiration for the Buzz Lightyear character in Toy Story.
Knick Knack[]
After creating the technically challenging short, Tin Toy, John Lasseter wanted to make something "pure cartoony". Knick Knack features a snowman trying to break out of his snow globe to get to a mermaid. The film was shown in 3D at the 1988 Siggraph Animation Show and was later rebuilt and re-rendered for general release in cinemas alongside Finding Nemo, Disney•Pixar's fourth movie.

Meet the lamb that spends his days dancing and admiring his shiny wool coat. All his friends love to watch him dance, and even the fish join him! But one day, a terrible thing happens. The lamb has all his wool sheared off, leaving him "ridiculous, funny, and pink!" Without his woolly coat, all his confidence disappears - how can he dance and groove in the nude? But a wise jackalope soon bounds into the lamb's life and teaches him a lesson: Sometimes you feel up, sometimes you feel down, but when you bound, you are right next to the sky. Suddenly the lamb and his friends are all boundin', with not a care in the world! Even when the time comes for the lamb to have his wool removed again, he doesn't care because he can bound back from anything that life throws at him! After all, as the wise jackalope said, "it's what's inside that counts".

The Incredibles[]
Mr Incredible (aka Bob Parr) saves lives and fights evil on a daily basis. But his glory days come to a screeching halt when Buddy Pine, an in-your-face young fan, interferes with a mission and causes a colossal disaster. The government decides it's time for superheroes to hang up their capes for good. Fifteen years later, the only thing Bob punches is a time clock at Insuricare, the insurance company where he works as a claims adjuster. He and his wife Helen (aka Mrs Incredible/Elastigirl) are trying to live a normal life with their three kids: Violet, Dash and a baby Jack-Jack. But Bob is overweight, out-of-shape and bored. He is soon lured out of retirement by a computer message from a mysterious woman who offers him the chance to go on a top-secret mission. It doesn't take much to persuade Bob, and he is soon on a plane bound for the remote island of Nomanisan. When Helen, Dash and Violet fly to Bob's rescue, the entire family is caught up in an action-packed battle of wits and super powers. It feels great to be vanquishing villains again, but when the dust settles, Bob has learned an important lesson. The greatest power in the world is a family's love. And the biggest adventure is being with them.

Entrusted with babysitting a cute young baby named Jack-Jack Par, Kari is determined to do a good job. But this is no ordinary baby; this is a Super baby. He behaves very strangely, displaying the ability to teleport, float, burst into flames and shoot lasers from his eyes. Kari is run ragged and the Parr family home is destroyed. When a new, mysterious babysitter arrives to take over, a now manic Kari is relieved. Then the government agent who interviews her about her experience tells her that she will soon have no memory of the events.

One Man Band[]
Bass is a one-man band with an empty tip mug that needs to be filled. When Tippy, a peasant girl, comes along holding a gleaming gold coin, ready to make a wish in the fountain, the sound of the one-man band attracts her attention. But Treble, a flashy newcomer, appears, vying for Tippy's coin. Suddenly it is the Battle of the One-Man Bands as both Bass and Treble pull out all the stops to get Tippy's coin. But their music reaches such a crescendo that Tippy drops the coin and it falls down the drain. She demands a coin to replace the lost one, but settles for one of Treble's violins. She shocks Bass and Treble when, after some tuning issues, she displays amazing skill on the violin, earning herself a bag of gold coins form a passerby. Tippy nearly gives two to Bass and Treble, but throws them in the fountain instead!

Cars[]
In a world filled entirely by cars, racing is the most popular sport. Like a bolt of lightning, arrogant rookie race car Lightning McQueen shows much flair as he storms up the rankings, his eyes firmly fixed on the last and biggest race of the season - the Piston Cup. Determined to win the trophy at all costs, plus a lucrative new sponsorship deal, Lightning only looks out for himself. However, the Piston Cup ends in a three-way tie between Lightning, legendary champion The King and perpetual runner-up Chick Hicks. A tie-breaker race among the three is set for one week later in California to decide the title. On the way to California, Lightning finds himself in a heap of trouble and ends up tearing up the main road in the forgotten town of Radiator Springs. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, the town's residents, led by the honourable Doc Hudson, don't allow Lightning to leave until he has repaired the road. As he spends time in Radiator Springs, Lightning starts to make friends with the town's quirky residents including Mater, a buck-toothed towing truck and Sally, a beautiful, sporty Porsche. Before long, he realises that friendship and loyalty may be more important than winning, and that the road ahead might not be as straightforward as he used to think it was...

Mater and the Ghostlight[]
In the sleepy town of Radiator Springs, everyone bears the brunt of Mater's practical jokes. When he's not pulling the flowers that Red is watering from under him, he's scaring Sally by appearing as a traffic cone vampire in her office window. Mater finds it very funny, but nobody else is laughing. Finally the Sheriff, along with the rest of the town, sets out to teach him a lesson. Sheriff recounts the chilling tale of the Ghostlight. the town ghost, who hates the sound of clanking metal. The story makes Mater's metal rattle, and when everyone departs he is left trembling and alone. Driving home, Mater gets the fright of his life when a bright blue glow appears behind him! Guido and Lightning McQueen have hung a lantern from his tow cable. When the joke is revealed, Sheriff points out to Mater that the only thing to be afraid of in Radiator Springs is your imagination - and the Screamin' Banshee...

Stu is a teenage alien taking his important abduction examination under the very watchful eye of Mr B. But abducting humans is no easy task, especially when it involves remembering what each of the spaceship's thousands of buttons actually do. Under Mr B's scrutiny, Stu manages to send the abductee flying - just not into the spaceship! After some more failed attempts Mr B finally takes pity on Stu and lets him have the controls. But Stu lands the ship on the abductee's house and demolishes it! Stu and the spaceship make a quick getaway, leaving the abductee to face quite a shock in the morning when he wakes up with only his bed still intact on a pillar of earth.

Meet Remy. Like all rats, he is obsessed with food, but while Remy's family is happy to eat rubbish and scraps, he prefers fine foods. Remy's hero is the late famous chef Auguste Gusteau. The title of Gusteau's cookbook, Anyone Can Cook, is also his motto. Remy's passion for good food suddenly makes the whole colony of rats homeless and he ends up floating along a sewer system using Gusteau's cookbook as a raft! When he later finds himself in Paris above Gusteau's restaurant, Remy is thrilled. He imagines Gusteau himself is there beside him. Remy watches the restaurant's kitchen, enchanted and befriends Linguini, a garbage boy with aspirations to cook. The clever rat helps Linguini, who is struggling to cook, by covering up a mistake he makes with an important soup recipe. The two of them devise a cunning system so Remy can help Linguini to cook in the kitchen without Skinner, the rat-hating head chef, knowing. Together, Remy and Linguini wow the food critics of Paris, including the formidable Anton Ego. They even save Gusteau's from a plot by Skinner to sell out to a corporation making convenience foods! Remy eventually succeeds in making his mark on the culinary world!

Your Friend the Rat[]
Remy, with the help of his somehwat reluctant brother Emile (who is more interesed in food than humans), speaks on behalf of oppressed rats everywhere. He presents a history of brown rats in an attempt to shatter the terrible myths that have given rats such a bad reputation. Remy points out that humans have not always detested rats. In fact, there was a time when humans considered rats to be sacred. After dispelling some popular myths about rats, such as revealing that the Black Death was not caused by rats (it was fleas!), Remy and Emile are determined to explain just how cool rats are. Remy leaves the audience with the final comforting thought that humans and rats are not actually that different, as they share a similar biology. Humans had better make friends with rats, as they are going to be around for a very long time!

But seven hundred years later BnL's clean-up robots have worn out and only one is left - WALL•E. He spends every day collecting, sorting and cubing rubbish. One day he finds a solitary plant growing amongst the rubbish and takes it home as a keepsake. A little while later, a visitor from outer space arrives and seems to be searching for something. WALL•E is captivated by the sleek, white robot (EVE) and tries to make friends with her. When WALL•E shows EVE his plant, it completes her mission to find vegetation on Earth and she immediately shuts down. WALL•E tries desperately to revive EVE, but her spaceship comes back to retrieve her and blasts off back to space. WALL•E hitches a ride on the ship and they journey to a starship named the Axiom. On board the Axiom, humans have grown lazy and overweight after years of inactivity. WALL•E finds himself on an adventure to save not only the robot he loves, but also the tiny plant that represents humanity's only hope of returning to Earth. Eventually, WALL•E manages to re-energise humans, prove his love to EVE and lead the Axiom safely back to Earth.

BURN-E[]
How many welding bots does it take to change a light? Just one, but he needs a lot of determination! Meet BURN-E, a welding-bot on a very important mission. When he is sent by Auto to repair a broken light on the exterior of the Axiom, it seems like a simple task, until WALL•E comes along. WALL•E is on a lifesaving mission of his own, and BURN-E soon finds himself locked out of the Axiom. Thanks to his trusty welding tool, he manages to get back in and reactivates the light, only for it to be destroyed by an escape pod lid. Thanks, WALL•E!

We all know that storks deliver babies, but do you know where they get them? Cloud people sculpt babies from clouds and bring them to life ready for storks to deliver. Gus, a small and insecure gray cloud, is a master at molding ''dangerous'' babies, like crocodiles, porcupines and rams. As his creations become more and more ambitious, his loyal deliver stork, Peck, has to work harder and harder. Will Peck manage to handle both his hazardous cargo and his fluffy friend's fiery temperament?

Carl Fredricksen's house holds precious memories of his late wife, Ellie. When a construction company tries to buy it, Carl is told he must move to a retirement village. He remembers his promise to Ellie, that they would go to Paradise Falls just like their hero, the explorer Charles F. Muntz. With a few ropes, sails and thousands of balloons, Carl and his house are up, up, and away! To Carl's surprise, Junior Wilderness Explorer Russell has tagged along, desperate to earn his Assisting the Elderly badge. On their journey they meet a giant bird, who Russell names Kevin, and Dug, a talking dog. Soon Dug's pack, Alpha, Beta and Gamma, catches up with the adventurers and takes them to their master - Charles F. Muntz, who wants to capture the bird. Fleeing Muntz, Carl gets his house to Paradise Falls. But when Russell leaves Carl to try to save Kevin, Carl realises his achievement means nothing unless he has someone to share it with and goes after Russell and the bird. An airborne fight ensues involving dirigibles, a flying house and doggy-piloted airplanes - and in the end, Carl loses his house in order to save his friends. Back on solid ground, Carl and Russell realise that their idea of adventure was wrong: sometimes adventure is not about strange lands and exciting journeys; sometimes it's about the everyday stuff and the friends you make along the way.
