Pete Docter

Pete Docter has been one of the key people in the development of many Pixar films and is one of the original members of the Brain Trust. He started in early 1990, being only the third animator at the company.[1] His first work was on television commercials before moving into the development of Pixar's first feature film Toy Story. He made his directorial debut with Monsters, Inc., and also directed the 2009 film Up. He has received 4 Academy Award nominations, plus won a Student Academy Award for his short film Next Door.

Docter was born in 1969 in Bloomington, MN, and comes from a very musical family. His mother Rita is a music teacher, his father Dave a retired choral director at a Bloomington community college. He has 2 sisters; Kirsten, who teaches viola at Oberlin College in Ohio, and Kari, who plays cello in the Met Opera orchestra in New York[2]. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota for one year before transferring to the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) to study character animation.
