"Harvester! Why, we harvested the same way since I was a pupa!"
—Cornelius rejecting Flik's harvesting machine

Cornelius is a supporting character in A Bug's Life. He is an elderly, doddering ant with a walking stick.

A Bug's Life[]

"Crotchety Cornelius specializes in agriculture. One of the oldest ants in the colony, he gets around with the aid of his cane, and has plenty to say—especially about the "good old days." Cornelius thinks Flik's newfangled inventions are nonsense. He sees no reason to change the ways things are done. "Why, we harvested the same way since I was a pupa," he grumbles. But Cornelius isn't all gripe and no play. When Flik returns with the Circus Bugs, Cornelius is ready to believe they can help the colony. And when it comes to partying, doing push-ups, or flirting with the Queen, there's life in the old ant yet. "Hubba hubba," as he would say."[1]

He is seen often with Thorny, agreeing with him continuously and repeating what he says. He dislikes Flik's harvesting ideas like Thorny, claiming that the colony has always been harvesting the same way since he was a pupa. When Flik reveals that Hopper was planning to squish the queen, Cornelius looks at her with a devastated expression of shock on his face.

Trivia[]

  • Like Mr. Soil, he also has purple eyes.
  • Although his name was never mentioned during the film, it appeared in the end credits instead.
